Friends of OIFF to screen Ukraine Under Fire in Washington, D.C.
Mark your calendars for a special screening event on February 24th in Washington, D.C.
Before we get to the details, we need to take you back to last year’s festival.
In June 2024, the Ouray International Film Festival welcomed a packed auditorium to our Ukrainian Cinema program supported by a grant from the Telluride Foundation. With standing room only, the event featured a diverse range of films by Ukrainian filmmakers exploring life before and during the Russian invasion. Following the screening, a panel moderated by festival jurist Alexandria Bombach discussed these timely, stirring, and challenging films with Ukrainian filmmakers Maria Pankova and Max Rykov who had travelled to be with us in the mountains.
Also serving on the panel were filmmaker Jordan Campbell and Mark Dillen, a board member of the Denver-based non-profit Ukrainians of Colorado. Campbell shared a 6 minute clip of his work in progress film Ukraine Under Fire.
Following the panel, Jordan and Mark kept in touch. “I'm very pleased to share that Mark and I have been collaborating closely ever since,” Campbell recently shared with us. This collobaration is resulting in a trip to the nation’s capital, where Campbell and Dillen will be co-hosting a special screening of Campbell’s recently completed documentary, UKRAINE UNDER FIRE: A Film About War & Resilience at George Washington University's Lisner Auditorium.
You can find all the event information here. The screening will be free, but registration is required to reserve tickets. If you’re in the D.C. area, we highly recommend attending this event. We are thrilled to have played a small role in connecting Jordan and Mark through our festival, and we send them our support for this important gathering in Washington.
